OCZ Agility 2 60GB Solid State Drive Review

Agility 2 Overview
Looking at the Agility 2 is looks much like every other solid state drive we have looked at in the past. It is a 2.5-inch drive and OCZ has used an aluminum casing, although since there are not moving parts protecting the drive is not the biggest concern. OCZ has gone with the same green color for the sticker on the top of the drive that we saw on the original Vertex. On each side of the drive you have 2 pre-drilled holes for mounting.

On the back of the drive you have a large sticker with some more information on it. You will also notice a “warranty void if broken” sticker, but don’t worry we will be voiding our warranty to show you what is inside this drive. Just like all solid state drives the Vertex 2 uses a SATA II data and power connection.

Getting inside the Agility 2 is quite simple, just remove the 4 screws on the back and slide the back off. Once inside we can see the PCB inside. OCZ is one of the only companies that we have seen that puts their logo on the PCB. Just like all other SandForce-based drives the Agility 2 uses the SandForce SF-1200 solid state drive processor, more specifically the SF-1222TA3.

Around the SandForce processor are 8 Intel (29F32G08AAMDB) MLC flash NAND chips. After taking the PCB completely out of the casing we found 8 more flash NAND chips on the back. So in total you have 16 flash NAND chips, each of which is 4GB. It is weird to see 16 flash chips on a 60GB drive usually we see 8 8GB chips.
