NZXT USB Expansion System Review

One thing that many motherboards have lacked up until recently was extra USB ports. Many people do not need a lot of extra USB ports, but people like me do. I run 4 external USB hard drives, have a USB webcam, 2 USB receivers for my keyboard and mouse, card reader, USB speakers, iPhone dock, and always need 1 extra USB port open for my flash drive! Wouldn’t it be nice if I could move a few of those connections inside the case and not have to worry about them? Well NZXT has developed something that is a no brainer, the IU01 USB Expansion System.

Special thanks to NZXT for providing us with the USB Expansion System to review!

IU01 Overview
The IU01 USB Expansion System is simply a black PCB that has all of the connections on it. It is nice that it is so small so you can easily place it inside of your case.

On the PCB you have 3 internal USB connections that will give you 6 internal USB ports, and then you have 2 external USB ports. So in total you have 8 USB ports! On the other side of the PCB you have the 2 pin power connector and the internal USB connector that you use to connect the IU01 USB Expansion System to your motherboard.

On the bottom of the PCB you have Velcro and double sided tape so you can easily mount the IU01 USB Expansion System in your case. Also to note that both the power connector and internal USB connector cables are sleeved. NZXT did not have to do this, but they did.
