The NZXT Sentry LXE is the first desktop fan controller built by NZXT. We’ve previously reviewed their single 5.25” controller the Sentry 2 and dual bay Sentry LX, but the benefits of the LXE improve over the others by simply saving space inside of your case. While it’s nice to have a fan controller built-in to the case, it doesn’t really seem practical for use. Not everyone has their PC on their desk. If you’re like me and have your case on the floor, the viewing angle just isn’t right when you’d want to make an adjustment to the fan controller. You have to get off your chair and bend down. Now with the Sentry LXE you don’t have to. Just simply place the LXE on your desktop, on top of your case, or somewhere else; you’ve got plenty of room to move it with the lengthy cord included.
The Sentry LXE is about the same size as a 4×6 photo frame (digital or non-digital). The black brushed aluminum surface gives the device a sturdy and attractive looking base.
The device has a pretty simplistic design. You have the plain front panel, with aluminum border and touch screen, an L shaped design (at a slight angle), with a box covering the back panel.
The back panel has the connector in the lower left corner. To remove the back panel you can simply do so by removing the four screws holding it together. The bottom of the LXE has two rubber strips to help keep it from sliding around on whatever surface it may sit on.
The included PCI controller board has all of the cables pre-attached. The controller board will fit into any empty PCI slot. The board doesn’t connect to your motherboard at all, so you don’t have to worry about trying to fit it into the right slot.
