NVIDIA Maxwell 20nm GPU Lineup Delayed Until 2015

Word has just come from SweClockers that NVIDIA’s 20nm Maxwell GPU lineup has been delayed till most likely 2015. The reason being that TSMC is not ready for 20nm GPU ASIC production.

This is going to be bad news for NVIDIA who had planned on releasing their 20nm Maxwell GPU lineup in Q3 or Q4 of this year. While 20nm production has begun at TSMC, apparently the process is not yet ready for full fledged GPU core production. SweClockers says that we might see an odd card or two by the end of 2014, but expect the full lineup in 2015.

It will be pretty interesting to see how this delay effects NVIDIA’s GPU market share and their roadmap in the long run. Remember they have Pascal and Volta coming down the pipeline and those could be delayed as well. There could be an odd chance NVIDIA would release 28nm Maxwell cards, but I don’t really see that happening.
