NVIDIA Launches GRID On-Demand Game Streaming Service

NVIDIA has just introduced their GRID on-demand gaming service. This service will launch in North America on November 18th, next month in Europe and next year in Asia. The GRID service will be free on the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet and SHIELD portable through June 30, 2015.

NVIDIA GRID

The GRID on-demand gaming service is much like the streaming video services we are used to like Netflix and Amazon Video, except it is with games. The cloud service is powered by NVIDIA’s GRID Supercomputer. When GRID launches on the 18th it will have 20 games to start with and NVIDIA plans to add new games each week. Some great games include Batman: Arkham City and Borderlands 2 as well as classics like Brutal Legend and Psychonauts.

It seems to start the GRID service will only be accessible from the SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD portable. I guess this is another way for NVIDIA to push units of these products as they have not been selling very well.

After the initial launch we will see if NVIDIA opens this service up to desktop or laptop users with NVIDIA hardware, of course they will most likely be some type of monthly cost behind that.
