According to a report by SweClockers NVIDIA is planning to release its next high performance single-GPU graphics cards no later than Q4 of 2014. These cards will incloude the GeForce GTX 880 and the GeForce GTX 870 and they are said to be launching in the October / November time frame.

These two new cards will more than likely be based off the brand new GM204 silicon, which from what we have heard is going to be based on the 28 nm silicon fab process. Delays by TSMC to implement NVIDIA’s next-generation 20 nm process has forced the company to design a need breed of “Maxwell” based GPUs on the existing 28 nm process. The GM204 chip is said to feature 3200 CUDA cores, 200 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. It will effectively replace NVIDIA’s GK104 chip.
