NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Spotted!

An entry for the NVIDIA GP106 GPU (aka the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060) has been spotted on the Zauba shipping database. This is the first actual confirmation that the GP106 is going to end up in the mainstream consumer market (instead of being used just for the NVIDIA Drive PX2). Another interesting twist is that the GTX 1060 will double the bus width compared to its predecessor, giving you a 256-bit wide memory bus. That is the same amount available on the GTX 1080/1070.

You can check out the Zauba entry below.

The shipping entry lists the insurance value of the chip (sort of pointless for determining MSRP), the specifications, and also the memory type. We now know that the GP106 will be using high density GDDR5 and since we have a 256-bit wide bus we are looking at either 4GB or 8GB of VRAM.

We really do not know much about the GP106 GPU, there are some scattered die shots, which you can see below (provided by VideoCardz). The die size appears to be around 200mm² and if we have two Global Processing Clusters (GPCs) then we can expect around 1280 CUDA cores (5 Streaming Multi processors per GPC and 256 CUDA cores per SMP).

The GTX 1060 is expected to use PCI-Express board power only, but AIB partner board will likely have a 6-pin PCI-Express power connector for added overclocking headroom. The GP106 will sit at the bottom of the barrel for Pascal, but still will bring with it quite a lot of performance thanks to the die shrink down to 16nm. We’ve already seen this with the performance numbers for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.

When we hear more about the GTX 1060 we will be sure to let you know!
