Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 2GB OC Edition Review

Author:

It’s here. ATI’s latest gamble to grab the performance crown once and for all -beastly dual GPU HD 5970- has landed. This card packs a massive amount of rendering power onto a single PCB and Sapphire has gone one step further by releasing their OC Edition which features increased clock speeds. Will the HD 5970 hold the title of the fastest card in the world or will its dual GPU nature drag it down?

Agreed, we'll see what happens when fermi comes out though. They still got plenty of time, considering it's gonna be impossible to get hold of one of these for yourself.

Nvidia needs to be faster else they are in trouble but one thing to keep in mind is that the first highend Fermi is more than likely a single chip design compared to ATI's HD5970, which is a dual chip design. 2 vs. 1 isn't really a fair fight.

Maybe they will release both in quick sucession like ati has done. only time can tell

Nvidia will be in the situation as ATI is. Their plants just can't produce enough cards to meet the demand.

I'm sure if they wanted to, they could make many more cards, it's just that by limiting the demand, they can set the price to whatever they please.

I expect to see Nvidia release their GT300 series with aggressive pricing to combat ATI. It probably won't happen though.

I don't expect any price wars at all, especially in the ultra highend segment.

ATI can only make as many as the foundry can supply to them.
