New NVIDIA Shield Portable Coming Soon

NVIDIA’s current Shield portable console is 2 years old now and might be due for an update very soon. New Listings for a device described as the NVIDIA Shield Portable P2523 has appeared at both the Bluetooth and WiFi certification websites.

NVIDIA Shield

Neither of the sites offer much detail on the device, but here is what we gathered:

– 802.11a/b/g/n/ac dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi
– Bluetooth 4.1
– Android 5.0
– Firmware version 3.10.61

So we can see that the device will support faster WiFi networks, and the latest Bluetooth standards. It will also run a newer version of NVIDIA’s firmware.

No information has been released about any of the other hardware, but we do expect NVIDIA to keep the same form factor as the original Shield. It is also expected for the new Shield to be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 quad-core processor.

Expect a late Spring launch for the new Shield portable.
