MSI’s Z270 Motherboard Features Detailed

We know all of the new Z270 motherboards coming out in a few weeks will have new features. Well MSI has released details on many of the new features their Z270 motherboards will incorporate. We’ve talked about a few of these, but we wanted to list them all here for you so you know what you are getting if you purchase a Z270 motherboard from MSI.

RGB Mystic Light

While we’ve seen RGB features on many motherboards, the audio PCB isolation on most motherboards has remained a single-color. With MSI’s Z270 motherboards you’ll enjoy RGB lighting on the PCB isolation. You’ll be able to control this lighting with MSI’s Mystic Light software.

M.2 Shield

We covered this a couple of weeks ago. MSI will introduce a M.2 shield on many of their Z270 motherboards. The M.2 shield is is an aluminum heatspreader that acts as a full-length cover over your motherboards M.2-2280 slots. It is hinged right by the M.2 connector. On the inside the cover has a non-conductive thermal pad which lets it make contact with your M.2 SSDs controller and NAND chips to transfer heat to the heatspreader. MSI says that the M.2 Shield will lower temperatures and can even reduce throttling on some high performance PCIe M.2 SSDs.

DDR4 Steel Armor

We’ve seen it on PCI-Express slots and now we’ll see it on DDR4 slots. MSI is bringing their steel armor to your memory slots. Unlike other designs MSI’s DDR4 Steel Armor looks to be a single metal piece which is soldered into the motherboard.

USB 3.1 Gen2 Front Panel Header

Many new cases will feature a front panel USB 3.1 Type-C port. MSI is anticipating this and will be including a USB 3.1 Gen2 Front Panel Header for Type-C, with speeds up to 10Gb/s. This connector looks to be metal shielded as well.

So those are the major new features you’ll see on MSI’s new Z270 motherboard. 2017 is going to be a great year for motherboards!
