MSI Holding Off On Launching the GTX 980 Lightning

According to reports MSI is holding off on launching their GeForce GTX 980 Lightning graphics card. I’m sure many of you are familiar with MSI’s lightning series which is know for its extremely high overclocks and custom cooling solutions. We suspect that MSI does not want to have a repeat of last year when they launched their GeForce GTX 780 Lightning and soon after NVIDIA launched the GeForce GTX 780 Ti.

The launch by NVIDIA caused price-cuts for the Lightning card and made it not as sought after as the GTX 780 Ti. A year before that MSI had launched their Radeon HD 7970 Lightning card and just a few weeks later AMD came out with the HD 7970 GHz Edition card.

MSI is currently selling their Gaming Series GTX 980 with their new TwinFrozr V cooling solution. So the reported hold off by MSI is possibly because they are expecting NVIDIA to come out with a third higher-end card after the GTX 980?
