MSI GeForce GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming OC Edition Video Card Review

Final Thoughts
Talking about the GeForce GTX 770, NVIDIA has gone ahead and made a better GeForce GTX 680 card that is faster and performs better. Just like any graphics card there are many options out there so why choose MSI’s GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming OC Edition card? Well MSI has packed this card with their Military Class 3 components, Twin Frozr IV cooling solution and they give you the option to run the card at three different clock speeds (Silent, Gaming & OC). That is sure better than any reference version of the GeForce GTX 770.

MSI’s Military Class III components have been United States Department of Defense MIL-STD-810G standard certified and are exclusively available on MSI products. Military Class III components are the most stable components available and enhance the performance, efficiency, stability and quality through the use of Hi-c CAP, Super Ferrite Chokes and Solid CAP. Using these components means that MSI is ensuring great stability and increased lifetime of their products.

Talking about stability the GTX 770 Gaming runs by default with a slight overclock of 1059 MHz core and 1111 MHz boost. But with the aid of the MSI Gaming App you can easily run the card in OC mode, which bring the card up to 1114 MHz core and 1166 boost. While this is not the largest factory overclock we have seen it is still much better than running a reference card. Also the Gaming App is perfect as it allows for 1-click overclocking of the card as many people do not know when they are doing when it comes to graphics card overclocking.

Keeping the card cool is the Twin Frozr IV cooling solution that is made up of dual 100 mm fans, a large aluminum heatsink and 5 heatpipes. This keeps the card nice and cool during long gaming sessions. When running our benchmarking suite the card never made it above 72C. We also ran Furmark’s 15 minute 1920 x 1080 benchmark which puts an extreme load on the GPU. In this test the GPU’s temperature went up to 80C, with the fan running at around 60%. With the fan at 60% it was still barely audible, which is great as no one wants their graphics card to sound like its taking off!

When it comes down to it the GeForce GTX 770 is about 10% faster than the GeForce GTX 680 and about 10-15% slower than the GeForce GTX 780. That means it will handle all of the new titles at 1920 x 1080 resolution at high settings with no issues at all. MSI brings awesome components, a great cooler and different operating modes to the table with this version of the GTX 770. Right now you can find the card for sale at my favorite online retailer for $399.99, which makes it the same price as many reference models. Overall ThinkComputers gives the MSI GeForce GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming OC Edition Video Card a 9 out of 10 score and Recommended Award.
