Matsunichi 500GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive Review

Usage & Testing
The Matsunichi 500GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive is just like any other USB 3.0 portable hard drive, just plug it into your PC and you are pretty much good to go. Windows should automatically recognize it so no need for drivers or anything like that. This drive does not come with any software.

To test the speed of the drive we will be using HD Tune Pro. Our first test is the Read Benchmark.

As you can see the drive has an average read of 64.4 MB/s with a maximum of 88.6 MB/s. While not the fastest portable drive we have tested it is much faster than a USB 2.0 drive. Remember the speed is dependent on the actual drive that is inside the enclosure.

Next up is HD Tune’s file benchmark, which is actually two tests in one. The first test is a transfer speed test that gives you a good idea of sequential read and write speeds.

The second test is a block size measurement test, which tests different file sizes.

So now we have an idea of the average speed of the drive, but how does it compare to other drives out there. We decided to run the File Benchmark on these other drives: ADATA SE720, ADATA HV610, ADATA HC630, WD My Passport (2013), and WD My Passport Essential.

As you can see the Matsunichi is close to the bottom of the pack.
