Linksys WRT3200ACM MU-MIMO Wireless Router Review

Final Thoughts
It has been quite a while since I’ve got my hands on a Linksys networking product. I was a huge fan of their original WRT54G router in the past and Linksys hopes to bring back some of that nostalgia as they’ve designed many of their new WRT series router to look like those first wireless routers we all used. Design-wise they’ve done a great job, the WRT3200ACM looks awesome sitting in our hardware rack. They were able to keep the classic design, but add cool LED features that show you what the router is doing.

When it comes to performance the WRT3200ACM is quite fast. We put this in router in the AC1900 category as we discussed in page 3 of this review. This is because in order to use the Tri-Stream 160 technology you need a 3×3 client that also supports contiguous 160 MHz bandwidth and the only one our there would be this router in client mode. So unless you are doing that you’ll get a maximum bandwidth of 1300 Mbps off the 5GHz band. Even so this router is fast! The MU-MIMO technology works pretty well and performance was only slighty effected when we had multiple devices using network resources.

The WRT3200ACM is extremely easy to setup whether it is on your PC, tablet, or mobile device. It took us just a few minutes and we were all set up! The Linksys Smart WiFi service allows you to monitor and change router settings from anywhere you have an internet connection. The Smart WiFi app is great and makes managing router settings from your mobile device quick and easy.

Need to add storage? The WRT3200ACM has a USB 3.0 port and a combo USB 2.0 / eSATA port so you can easily add network storage for sharing and streaming. Like many WRT routers the WRT3200ACM is open source and supports different operating system like OpenWrt and DD-WRT.

At the end of the day I am very happy with the WRT3200ACM it is a workhorse and if you have a fast internet connection and want to make the most of out it this is one of the better routers to get. Right now you can pick it up at our favorite online retailer for $179.95. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Linksys WRT3200ACM MU-MIMO Wireless Router a 9 out of 10 score.
