It def. will be a while before it happens, but at the rate we're going, it'll proabbly be here in less than 10 years, so long as usb drives still exist.

As the capacities of usb drives grows we may see external harddrives become extinct. For example some of the new usb 3.0s that should be coming out soon have capacities of 128gb, all in a much more compact and space saving design.
