Kodak Zx1 HD Digital Camcorder Review

Final Thoughts
I really do like the Zx1, I have looked at quite a few small portable digital camcorders and the Zx1 is one of the better ones that I have seen.  It is very easy to use, can shoot 720p at both 60 and 30 frames, and can fit up to a 32GB SDHC card. The biggest problem I had with the Zx1 is the buzzing sound that appeared on all of the videos that I shot. This is just not acceptable.

Let’s forget about the buzzing sound for a second and ask the question, is the Zx1 going to replace my Flip MinoHD?  I’ve been using the flip MinoHD for a while now, it also shoots 720p video (30fps) and is very small.  Well there are a few things that would make me want to choose the Zx1.  The removable storage does allow me to use larger SDHC cards and be able to record more videos.  Also the Zx1 is more rugged than the Flip MinoHD so it would not break as easily.  But on the other hand the Flip MinoHD is smaller and is a little easier to use.

Also if I’m traveling or something like that the only thing I have to bring with me is the Flip MinoHD, with the Zx1 I would have to bring the Zx1 itself, battery charger, card reader and maybe extra batteries.  So it really is a mix up, as of right now I am using both devices.

Geeks.com sells the Zx1 refurbished for $79.99 and you can get it brand new from Kodak for $149 so it still is a little cheaper than the Flip MinoHD.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Kodak Zx1 HD Digital Camcorder a 6 out of 10 score.
