Kingston HyperX 240GB Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts
As I said in the introduction of this review HyperX is what Kingston calls their top-tier products, so does this drive deserve that name?  It sure does!  From an overall standpoint this drive is the fastest 2.5-inch solid state drive we have tested according to ATTO disk benchmark.  It received scores of 559MB/s read and 525MB/s write, which are very impressive!

This is a SandForce-based drive so you do get the added features that the new SandForce SF-2200 controller offers. The drive will do real-time loss-less compression. This is why there is no need for a cache chip, but also means less writes to the data cells. RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) is a term we have heard a lot with these new drives. So on top of ECC for data protection RAISE adds another level of security. This drive also supports TRIM as almost all solid state drives do these days.

The upgrade kit really is cool, and is a perfect stocking stuffer!  Not only do you get a the HyperX drive but you get a desktop USB enclosure, screwdriver, blue SATA cable, 3.5-inch mounting bracket and cloning software.

The HyperX drive is the sexiest solid state drive you can find as well!  The brushed aluminum finish with the blue accents just looks awesome!  If you are going for looks alone this is the drive for you.

Interestingly enough the upgrade kit is exactly the same price ($469) as the standalone drive so there is no reason why you shouldn’t get the upgrade it.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Kingston HyperX 240GB Solid State Drive a 10 out of 10 score and our Editor’s Choice Award!
