Rugged Portable Overview
Getting the Rugged Portable hard drive out of the packaging the first thing I noticed was actually how large it was. The actual dimensions are 3.9″W x 5.7″L x 1.0″H, which is pretty large for a portable hard drive. The housing itself weighs in at 1LB and is made of billet-machined aluminum.
On the front of the device there is a single ioSafe logo. The device is basically one large piece of aluminum that has a hard drive inside. The aluminum look is actually pretty cool and I’m sure Apple fans will appreciate it. Whatever system you have the Rugged Portable hard drive is going to look pretty sleek sitting on your desk.
On the back of the device there is one simple connection which is the mini USB 3.0 connection that we’ve seen on many USB 3.0 devices. Beside it is a power and activity LED. Further left there is a kensington lock port. For those who do not want USB 3.0 ioSafe also offers the Rugged Portable in FireWire 800. On the bottom are 4 rubber feet and your serial number, which you will need to register the device.
