Intel Haswell-E and X99 Chipset Preview

Should You Get Haswell-E
The biggest question is with Haswell-E coming out should you upgrade from your current platform to it? Well there are a few different answers to that depending on your situation and what all you are going to be doing with your system.

If you are upgrading from an X79 system
If you currently have an X79 system it has been a long four years! The have been a lot of improvements to the chipset as far as features go and many new motherboards have things you will not find on X79 boards. These include SATA Express, M.2 support and even in some cases USB 3.0. While X79 is still a very viable platform, if you want a new motherboard and the features the new X99 motherboards bring then it would be a good idea to upgrade.

Are you a serious gamer?
One of the biggest attractions to Intel’s HEDT platform is that with the Core i7-5980X and Core i7-5930K you will get 40 PCI-Express 3.0 lanes. That gives you the ability to run multiple graphics cards without any issues. So if you want to have 4-way SLI or CrossFire setups for UltraHD gaming then moving to Intel’s HEDT platform could be for you.

You want the newest platform out there
Well if you are anything like me you always want to newest hardware available and on Friday this platform will be the newest out there. On top of that it is the first consumer platform to support DDR4 memory. The processors are extremely fast, you get quad channel DDR4 memory, and the motherboards are feature packed. If you want the best that is available then then Haswell-E and the X99 platform is for you.
