Intel Core i7-5960X “Haswell-E” Processor Review

Overclocking & Temperatures
Overclocking on the X99 platform is quite simple as all processors have unlocked base clock multipliers. So you just up the base frequency and keep on testing for stability and go up from there. The Core i7-5960X has a base clock frequency of 3.0 GHz. I was able to bring that all the way up to 4.4 GHz stable with the CPU vCore at 1.3v. A 1.4 GHz overclock, not that bad at all!

To show you the difference with our CPU overclocked here are some benchmarks with the CPU running at 4.4 GHz.

As far as temperatures go the Core i7-5960X actually runs much cooler than the other two chips. This is due to its lower clock speed.
