We have been hearing a lot of rumors that Intel’s upcoming 14nm Broadwell generation of CPUs are going to be delayed. They had been on track to launch in Q3 of 2014, but that might not be happening. First off the M Series and desktop parts will not be delayed at all, but the Y, U and H Series will be delayed.
The Y series will still have the Core i5 5220Y and Core i3 4030Y Haswell refresh CPUs arriving in Q3, but the Broadwell CPUs in the series will not be here until Q4 2014 at the earliest with most of the series arriving in Q1 of 2015. The U series is pretty much the same with the Haswell refresh parts coming in Q3, but the Broadwell parts being pushed back to Q4 of 2014 or Q1 of 2015. With the H Series Broadwell parts will not arrive until Q1 of 2015.
The delay of the U Series could push back Apple’s MacBook Air refresh. For those wondering the Haswell refresh will happen in mid April and the H97/Z97 will launch on May 11th 2014. The Haswell refresh will most likely bring a slight speed bump over the current Haswell parts. The new H97/Z97 motherboards are most likely not going to bring anything new to the market.
