ICY DOCK MB559U3S-1S Ultra Slim USB 3.0 & eSATA External HDD Enclosure Review

Installation & Testing
Getting your drive installed is actually very easy.  We will be using a Samsung 750GB 3.5-inch SATA drive.  ICY DOCK does have a 3.5-inch to 2.5-inch adapter, but it is not included.  So if you want to install a laptop hard drive or solid state drive you will need to purchase the adapter separately.  To install the drive take out the drive tray and remove the stabilization bar in the middle.  Now line up your drive on each side and secure it with screws.  Then just simply slide the tray back in the enclosure, lock it into place and you are good to go.

To test the speed of the MB559U3S-1S we will be using HD Tune’s file benchmark.  This will give us the sequential read and write speed for the drive.  We will be testing both the eSATA and USB 3.0 connections.  Keep in mind the enclosure is only as fast as the drive inside.  Here are our results below.

As you can see very good results and definitely much better than USB 2.0.  Talking about USB 2.0 this drive is backwards compatible, so you can connect it to any device that has USB 2.0 as well.  The white LED on the front of the device is on at all times and when you are access the drive it flickers to show activity.
