The MB559U3S-1S is a very attractive unit like most of the other ICY DOCK enclosures. We received the silver and white version of the enclosure, but it also comes in black. The enclosure is not much larger than the hard drive that will be installed inside of it. The actual dimensions are 191 x 142.6 x 31.2 mm it is weighs in at just over a pound.
The sides of the enclosure are made of aluminum which not only look great, but do add some extra protection. On the left side you will find an ICY DOCK logo and the opposite side is plain.
On the front you will find a small tray that easily pulls out. To pull the tray out just press down on the dark grey button and a small lever will pop out. Now pull on it to easily remove the drive tray. This is not a tool-less drive tray so you will need to screw in your drive. This tray supports 3.5-inch hard drives, although ICY DOCK does offer a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch SATA HDD converter for those with 2.5-inch drives. Also this tray design is compatible with many different ICY DOCK devices.
If we take a look inside the enclosure you can see the SATA power and data connections inside. On the top of the enclosure are little slits that will provide some cooling for your hard drive, but there is no fan on the enclosure.
On the back of the enclosure you will find all of your connections and buttons. From left to right or top to bottom you have a power button, power connection, USB 3.0, eSATA, lock port and a small button that releases the feet so you can place the MB559U3S-1S in a vertical orientation. This is actually one of the coolest features of the device. The feet just pop out! They also have rubber on the bottom that will help keep the enclosure sturdy on your desk.
