Hornettek Goliath USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Installation & Testing
Getting your drive in the Goliath is very easy.  We will be installing a Western Digital 1TB drive.  All you need to do is just slide the drive in and connect it to the SATA connector.  Then go ahead and put the side panel back on.  Once you have the side panel back on just plug in the power and plug in the USB cable to an open USB 3.0 or 2.0 port.

For testing we will be using HDTune Pro to test both read and write speeds of the enclosure.  Keep in mind that the speed of the enclosure is based off the drive you install inside of it.  In our case it is the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6GB/s drive.  First I ran both of HDTune’s read and write benchmarks.

Very good results here.  To see the difference between USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 I ran the same tests having the enclosure connected to a USB 2.0 port.  You can see the dramatic difference in speeds in the graph below.

Finally just for fun I ran HDTune’s File Benchmark.  The first test uses a 500MB test file and gives you a graph of the transfer speeds.

The second test is a file transfer test.
