Deepcool Captain 240 Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Installation
We begin the installation like we start all of our AiO installs, by attaching the fans to the radiator. First decide how you will orient the radiator in your case and attach the fans in pull mode accordingly.

With the fans attached we want to get the radiator installed in the case. Holding the radiator in place with one hand, install two screws loosely on opposite ends of the radiator to get it hung in place. Now you can install the remaining six screws.

It is definitely worth noting that the screws do not go into the radiator very easily. This is likely due to overspray from the paint on the radiator clogging the holes. It was so bad on one of the holes, that when paired with low quality hardware, we ended up snapping one of the screws. We were able to get the other seven screws installed so the radiator is secure, but it doesn’t make us very happy to see this low level of quality control.

Moving forward you want to install the backplate through the back of the motherboard. Begin by inserting the standoff screws into the proper position on the backplate. Ours is for Socket 1150 so we placed them accordingly. The standoffs are secured with clever plastic clips to keep them from falling out.

Orient the backplate correctly with the design of the motherboard and press it into place. From the inside of the case secure the standoffs with the four rubber washers.

Next you need to attach the brackets for your socket to the pump. These are secured with two screws as shown in the picture.

Since we had to replace the factory installed TIM we did that at this point using some Cooler Master Ice Fusion. We of course contacted DeepCool about this matter and this was approved for our testing. With the TIM in place you simply align the pump with the standoffs and press it onto the CPU. Holding it in place with one hand secure it to the motherboard with the four thumbscrews. We used a screwdriver to finish them off.

With the hard parts done we need to make all of our electrical connections. Begin by attaching the 3-pin pump power wire to the CPU_FAN header.

Well follow that by attaching the fans to the included and now standard DeepCool fan splitter. This compact triangular splitter is one of the better ones we’ve used. It will take a PWM signal and lower and raise your fan speed based on system settings. Attach both fans and then attach the unit to an open header on the motherboard.

That will do it for the installation process. Its a pretty straight forward process with just one or two hang ups due to hardware.
