Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 16GB Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts
Our first DDR4 memory kit that we reviewed from Crucial was their JEDEC kit, which runs at the stock DDR4 speeds of 2133 MHz. The Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 kit we took a look at today has a nice bump up to 2400 MHz. That of course is going to give you a little performance boost. This kit runs at 2400 MHz with timings of 16-16-16-5 at 1.2v.

Not only does Crucial give this kit a bump up in speed they have also made the modules look great. The PCB is all black and the heatspeaders are grey with silver accents. These will look great in whatever system you have them installed in! The heatspeaders also do not go over top of the PCB so you will not have any clearance issues at all.

Once you have the modules installed in your system all you have to do is go into the BIOS and enable the XMP profile and you are good to go! It really is that easy. As far as overclocking goes we were able to push this kit from 2400 MHz to 2667 MHz using the exact same timings of 16-16-16-5, which is very impressive. I do believe that our motherboard did hold us back a little bit.

Currently Crucial is only offering this kit in 2400 MHz speeds in 16GB and 32GB kits. There are other offerings from other memory companies that offer the same speed, but better timings.

If you are looking for a DDR4 memory kit for your new X99 build the Crucial Ballistix Sport kits are a great choice and they are going to look great in your system. Crucial also backs these kits up with a lifetime warranty. The 16GB kit that we reviewed today is selling at my favorite online retailer for $198. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 16GB memory kit a 9 out of 10 score.
