Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1866 6GB Triple Channel Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts
We always count on Crucial for quality memory products and they did not let us down with this Ballistix kit.  The new heatspreaders will still catch someones attention if you have a case window, but they have a modern look to them as well.  The heatspreaders are made of aluminum which will keep the modules cool during operation.  The only issue with the heatspreaders is that they are a little large so if you have a large CPU cooler you might run in to some clearance issues.

Since this kit has an XMP profile it is easy to get the modules running at 1866MHz.  As far as performance goes this kit is very solid.  We did not have any issues running the modules at 1866MHz.  Overclocking the memory was also pretty easy, I was able to get a stable 150MHz overclock with the tight timings of 9-9-9-24, putting the kit at 2016MHz.  Not too bad at all!

The Ballistix MOD utility is pretty cool, although it is not included with the modules, you have to download it.  It is not even mentioned on the packaging so unless you are reading a review like this you really don’t even know about it.  It allows you to see the SPD information for each module and see the temperatures.

For some reason this kit is not listed on Crucial’s site.  Each 2GB module sells for $65.99 or you can buy the 6GB kit at my favorite online retailer for $185.99.  Also Crucial stands behind their products giving these modules a lifetime warranty.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1866 6GB Triple Channel Memory Kit a 9 out of 10 score.
