Corsair K68 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Corsair K68 Gaming Keyboard Overview
The Corsair K68 is what we would characterize as a “full-size” gaming keyboard, so you have a full compliment of keys along with a full number pad. The keyboard follows the style of other “K” keyboard from Corsair, and it is a design that we like a lot. The keyboard is all black with black keycaps that have clear lettering on them for the red LEDs to shine through. You can also see the red backing behind the keys, this will help the red LEDs look more pronounced.

Besides your normal compliment of keys there are a few extras on the K68. At the top right corner you’ll find multimedia controls which include mute, volume down, volume up, stop, back, play/pause, and back. It is great to have dedicated multimedia keys, especially when gaming as you won’t have to minimize or leave your game to adjust volume. There are also smaller Windows key lock and brightness buttons.

While pretty much all keys on the keyboard are the same, the space bar has a unique texture on it. This actually feels pretty good and is great if you are playing a game where you use the space bar a lot. The included wrist rest is made of plastic, but has rubberized sections which should make your typing / gaming experience comfortable.

Taking the keycaps off some of the keys we find Cherry MX Red mechanical switches. Each of these switches are also outfitted with a single red LED. This means that this keyboard does have per-key backlighting. You can also get a better look and the red backing I was talking about. It actually comes up around each switch, this is what will protect your switches from spills and dust. Essentially liquid will flow around the key switches and not get into the inside of the keyboard.

Flipping over to the back of the keyboard you’ll find four rubber feet on the bottom of the keyboard as well as three more on the wrist rest. These will help keep the keyboard from moving, even during your most intense gaming sessions. The connected USB cable is rubber, but each end is protected so the cable will not fail.

Taking a look at the keyboard from the side we can see that the first three rows of the keyboard are angled down, while the last three are angled up. This type of design is very common when it comes to gaming keyboards. If you need better angle adjustment you can use the pop-out feet. You can also notice how high the keys sit from the chassis of the keyboard itself.
