A Closer Look
Just like the Control-RX, the Power-RX is simply huge. It measures 17.71” x 13.77” x .098” and weighs about 1 lb. Due to its large size you had better make sure it will fit where you need it to. It is so large that about ⅓ of my keyboard is on it which doesn’t bother anything since the mousepad is so thin. Certain games require you to be able to make large movements with your mouse so this would be perfect for those games. So with this super large mousepad, you would find yourself picking your mouse less to make those large movements.
I like how Cooler Master displays their logos. They pop out of the black so they can be seen and are not too overwhelming. Up top is the company and brand logo and in the bottom right corner is the Power-RX logo. The Power-RX logo is also pressed into the underside of the mousepad and I’m not sure why it is as i do not believe the mousepad is reversible. It is documented as being so.
The mousepad is actually extremely thin in my opinion being only 2.5mm thick. There really is no difference in support between the Power-RX and the freebie that came with your E-Machine or Acer PC in the 90’s. So in terms of comfort and support, I’m not impressed. The edges are rounded and “clamped” which basically means there are no sharp edges to slow down your wired mouse.
The underside has a soft anti-slip silicon base that does a great job at keeping the mousepad in place. After several hours of intense gaming, it never moved an inch.
The top uses CM’s “Surgical Strike Surface” which, according to CM, means you will have superior tracking for both optical and laser mice. Everything from big to small moves should be extremely precise. I did not find this to be the case as I’m now using a freebie one from the NRA and it feels exactly the same as the Power-RX. Maybe even more comfortable as its at least 1mm thicker and provides a bit more comfort for my wrist.
One important thing to note is that the mousepad is actually water resistant. This means you don’t need to sweat spilling your drink on it as it will just bead up. You can wipe it down or even give it a good rinse in the sink. If you’re clumsy (or have kids) and keep ruining your expensive “fabric style” mousepads because things keep getting spilt on them then maybe you should consider the Power-RX.
