Chieftec BL-01B PC Case Review

External Overview
[ad#review1069-top]The BL-01 isn’t your typical case. My first thought was that it was just a small form factor case, just by looking at the box. Once I opened up the box I realized I was in for a surprise. While it had the aspects of a small form factor case it also has the features of mounting an LCD on the case! This is the first case I’ve ever seen actually implement an LCD monitor mount onto a case. The “L-type” design is what gives it the mounting capability.

I was a bit confused on what to expect with the case considering I’ve never mounted an LCD in my life. The mounting bracket for the LCD is actually attached to the case by two screws, probably for shipping purposes. Once it’s mounted on a LCD it will easily slide on the rail system in the center of the case and is locked by the pull-tab at the top which pulls the metal locking tab in and out.

The front panel looks just like most every other small form factor case. On the right side of the plain black finish are the external drive bay, fairly large power button, reset button, mic/audio jacks and two USB ports. On the left side of the panel are four slots created for airflow in and out of the case.

You can see where the case gets it’s “L” shape by getting a side view of the case. On one side of the case you have a fan grill for a 120mm fan at the top with a section of airflow holes at the bottom. On the other side is the basic rear of the case setup which includes 7 expansion slots, motherboard I/O slot, power supply slot (at the bottom), and a section of holes for airflow in between.

On the top of the case is a clear sticker with white lettering to shows you some instructions on how to install an LCD onto the case, it’s not the most detailed (as more is provided in the instruction booklet), but it still provides a quick overview in case you would forget in the future. The back panel is plain except for the raised section near the top of the case. This plastic panel appears to be mostly designed for airflow out of the back of the case.

The back panel is easily removed by two thumbscrews.

  1. you never know when you're dealing with kids what they will do, i've had lots of bad experiences. It's not like they won't have to adjust the monitor

  2. what are you talking about scratch? where was it mentioned that they were going to scratch anything. i'm saying they might accidentally tip this computer over since if you attach a monitor to it, it may be quite imbalanced.

  8. I love this case. It’s perfect for someone like me who has very little space and a very small desk. Right now, I have my PC on the floor under my desk because my monitor takes up too much room, and I hate it. Also, I doubt veyr seriously this case would be unbalanced. I’m sure that the manufacturer designed it in such a way that it could handle an lcd attached to it… otherwise they would not have made it that way. I do think it needs to be modded, a bit though… would be a perfect case to mod for better airflow.
