Cherry MX Board 6.0 Keyboard Review

Usage & Final Thoughts
I have been using the MX Board 6.0 as my main keyboard for the past 3 weeks and I have to say I am really enjoying it. It has to be one of the most comfortable keyboards that I’ve used in a very long time. I think a lot of it has to do with the quality of the keyboard, plus the large wrist rest. On top of that you have the great Cherry MX Red mechanical key switches. For me those are not my favorite Cherry switch, but it is going to be very hard for me to switch out this keyboard. If Cherry made this keyboard with their blue switch I would be using this keyboard for the next few years.

Because this keyboard is a little dated we do not have RGB backlighting or anything like that. We have simple red backlighting, which has 10 main levels of brightness and even more fine tuned adjustment if you want it. As I said this backlighting is simple so there are no effects or anything like that. I sort of like how there are no indication LEDs on this keyboard, for example if number lock is enabled the number lock key is blue instead of red.

From a gamers point of view this keyboard is obviously missing software so that you can reprogram the keyboard, create macros, etc. I think any gaming keyboard should come with some type of software so that you can do these things. This might speak to the age of this keyboard, but it is something that is obviously missing.

From a purists point of view this keyboard is one of the most comfortable we’ve ever used and has none of the extra buttons or features that you just don’t need. I would hope that Cherry comes out with a new version of this keyboard soon that comes with their RGB backlight switches and software. We will just have to see.

Right now you can pick up this keyboard for $173.96, which does seem a little expensive based on its dated features. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Cherry MX Board 6.0 Keyboard an 8 out of 10 score.
