CES 2009: Cooler Master

Cooling

Following on the success of the Hyper 212 CPU cooler they have announced the Hyper N520 and Hyper N620. Both features a tower stack design with heatpipes coming up from the base. Unlike the Hyper 212 both of these models have a dual-fan design that will really help with airflow. Right now these coolers are universally compatible with both Intel and AMD CPU’s, no word yet on if they are compatible with Core i7’s though.

On the notebook cooling side of things Cooler Master showed us the NotePal D1 and NotePal X1. You can see why they call the one the X1 because it has an “X” design to it. The X1 has a 120mm fan in the center to keep you laptop cool, has 2 USB ports, and has fan speed control on it. The D1 is a smaller cooler and is made of aluminum. It features 2x 70mm fans powered by the USB connection. The USB connector is actually double sided so when you plug it into your notebook you won’t lose a USB port.

Choiix Line of Products

Choiix is Cooler Master’s spinoff brand of hip designer notebook products including coolers and sleeves. This is the first time we’ve had a chance to really take a look at the Choiix brand.

The notebook coolers in the Choiix line are very interesting. They feature an open center design with a fan at the back to push out all of the hot air under your notebook. There are 2 versions, a smaller version for netbooks and smaller laptops and a larger version for full-sized notebooks. The smaller version only has 1 fan whereas the larger one has 2 fans. Each cooler features a 4 port USB hub as well.

Choiix is trying to capitalize on the netbook trend with a line of aluminum sleeves made for notebooks 14-inches and below. These aluminum sleeves will protect your netbook when you are taking it from place to place and they even unfold and can be used as a notebook stand. They are available in 4 different colors.

Choiix also has another sleeve made specifically for the Eee PC’s from ASUS. This sleeve fits around your Eee PC and allows you to even open your Eee PC with the sleeve still attached. It is available in 3 different colors and a limited edition flower design. One of the coolest notebook stands that Choiix was showing off was The Chair wooden notebook stand, available in birch, walnut, or Bamboo. This stand is available for notebooks up to 15-inches.
