AMD has just released its latest Radeon Crimson Edition drivers. These are version 16.4.2 and they bring with them updated CrossFire profiles for “Elite Dangerous” and “Need for Speed” (2016). The driver also introduces full support for AMD XConnect Technology, which is the use of an external graphics card dock. The are also critical bug fixes for “The Division”, “Steam VR Performance assessment”, “Hitman” (2016) with CrossFire, and “Fallout 4” with CrossFire.
At PAX East Gigabyte was showing off three unreleased X99 motherboards. These new boards are set to launch along side Intel’s Broadwell-E HEDT processors. These new X99 boards include the X99-Designare EX, X99-Phoenix SLI G1 Gaming, and the X99 Ultra Gaming. He have the details on each board below!
Over the weekend at PAX East Logitech had something really cool and it definitely caught the attention of a lot of people! They used 160 of their G810 Illuminated keyboard to create a really cool retro game display. I think this is the first time we’ve really seen something like this! Over the weekend a couple of photos of NVIDIA’s upcoming GP104 Pascal GPU were leaked. There is a super close up version and a second photo showing the surrounding memory etc. Let’s start with the close up photo, looking at it compared to NVIDIA’s “performance” Maxwell chips it looks like GM104 will be smaller than both. Calculations put the size of the die at 317 mm2.
PAX East seems like a weird place to announce a PC case as most things at the show are gaming related, but In Win was showing off two new cases at the event. The first is the D-FRAME 2.0, which of course is the successor to the original D-FRAME case. It features the same handcrafted metallic tubing structure that we saw on the original D-Frame, but now it has a 2-tone design with the front and top being metallic, and the bottom and back being black. Where the tubing connects is also accented in yellow.

AMD’s GPU architecture roadmap has once again been updated. Now we have details through 2018. First we have AMD’s “Polaris” architecture, with Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 chips. Polaris will bring with it great leaps in performance over the current generation of GPUs bringing with it 2.5-times performance/watt improvement. Polaris has actually been rumored to be used in Sony’s upcoming 4K Ultra HD PlayStation.

DOOM co-creator John Romero is apparently going to announce a new PC shooter soon. Romero posted a video on his YouTube channel titled “The Return”. The video is a recreation of the last scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and has Id Software co-founder Adrian Carmack walking up to John Romero holding a keyboard and mouse towards him. The video ends with an announcement date of April 25th and a link to Romero’s new studio Night Work Games. Check out the video below.
It is likely that we will see NVIDIA launch its first graphics cards based on the GP106 silicon some time in Autumn 2016 (Q3-Q4). The GP106 silicon is based on the NVIDIA’s next-generation “Pascal” architecture and will power several key mid-range and performance-segment SKUs including cards that will succeed the current GeForce GTX 960 and GTX 950 graphics cards.
