The ARES memory is designed to be low-profile so you can use it with larger aftermarket CPU coolers. AMD’s 7000 series is made up of 3 segments. Starting with the flagship 7900 which are the high-end cards. Then we have the 7700 series which has budget gamers in mind. We have been hearing a lot about Intel’s 3rd generation Core processors and the Z77 chipset. The Z77 chipset is made to be an upgrade from the current Z68 chipset. Using many of the same technologies as the Z68 chipset the Z77 also adds support for the Virtu Universal MVP, native USB 3.0 support, Smart Connect and Rapid Start. Today we are taking a look at our first motherboard based on the Intel Z77 chipset the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H. This motherboard is one of the twelve Z77 motherboards Gigabyte has announced. It is set to be their mainstream Z77 offering so let’s just right in and take a look.
With Intel’s X79 chipset we started to see quad channel DDR3 memory. It is crazy to think that in just a short period of time we have gone from dual channel to quad channel memory. Not long after Intel released the X79 platform we started to see quad channel kits designed and certified specifically for the platform. Today we are taking a look at one such kit, the G.Skill RipjawsZ DDR3-2133 16GB quad channel kit (F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH). Gigabyte’s lineup of Intel X79 or Sandy Bridge-E motherboards is only made up of four boards. For gamers there is the G1 Assassin 2, X79-UD7-OC for overclockers, and X79-UD5 for enthusiasts. This brings us to the X79-UD3 which is Gigabyte’s entry-level and least expensive Intel X79 motherboard coming it at $249. Sandy Bridge-E is Intel’s high-end platform and the X79 chipset is much improved over its P67/Z68 counterparts. You now have 40 PCI-Express 3.0 lanes and quad-channel memory. That means with this board you can easily throw in up to 32GB of DDR3 and run 4-way Crossfire or SLI right out of the box. Also this is the first time we will see Gigabyte’s 3D BIOS.
