Usage & Testing
Get get started with the BRV-X press and hold in the power button for 2-3 seconds. You will hear the power-up tone. Now that the BRV-X is on press and hold the play button until you hear another tone. Now the BRV-X is in pairing mode. Now go into your device’s Bluetooth settings and select “BRAVEN BRV-X” from the list. If it does ask for a passcode enter “0000”. The BRV-X will remember the last 8 devices it has been paired with.
Another great feature of the BRV-X is that it has Braven’s TrueWireless technology that allows you to pair it up with another BRV-X unit for true left and right audio.
One thing that we were a little disappointed with when it came to Braven’s BRV-1 was the audio quality, it was just underwhelming. Being that the BRV-X is much larger and seems to be more heavy duty we have much, much better audio quality. It is actually one of the best-sounding portable Bluetooth speakers I’ve had the chance to test. Even at its highest levels the sound does not distort at all and is very clear.
On the back of the BRV-X you will find a switch that allows you to toggle between indoor and outdoor audio modes. Using both modes I’ve concluded that the indoor mode has a very clear and rich sound, while the outdoor mode seems to boost the mid and high range, which will allow the sound to travel further. Out of the two modes I do like the indoor audio the best, although having the outdoor mode is definitely useful.
One of the cool things about the BRV-X is that it allows you to charge your other devices. Using your device’s charging cable simply plug it into the USB port in the back of the BRV-X and it will start charging your device. Keep in mind that the BRV-X is made to only charge 0.3A to 1.1A devices and will not charge larger 2.0A devices like an iPad. If you try and plug in a device like this the battery protection on the BRV-X will disable the charging port and you will need to power it off and turn it back on for it to work again. The BRV-X will also automatically disable charging when the battery is too low.
So is the BRV-X truly waterproof? Yes it is! While in use we dropped an entire glass of water on it when it was on and we had no problem at all!
