Are you ready for the PS Vita? Nyko is ready, and at CES 2012 they’ve proven their readiness by showing off their line of Vita launch products. Starting with the Speaker Stand that not only provides speakers for the Vita, but it also doubles as a charging dock and has an infrared remote. There’s also the Power Grip, Power Armor Kit, Power Kit and game case. Sticking with the speaker accessory theme, Nyko also has a Speaker Stand coming out for the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire’s Speaker Stand will also change the device, and it has a kickstand. The last Kindle Fire product Nyko showed was the Power Grip. It has a built in rechargeable battery to give the Kindle Fire an extra boost, an ergonomic grip, and a kickstand that can be used horizontally or vertically. Finally, Nyko is offering Yo Gabba Gabba! products. The first is a Brobee Hip Pack, with the other being the Muno Time.
Plextor showed us around their suite at CES 2012 which featured their optical drives and SSD’s. We took a look at the PX-612U, an external DVD writer that has a built in card slot and can connect to a TV thanks to Plextor’s PlexTV software. PlexTV allows you to display anything from the PX-612U onto your TV, whether it is a DVD Movie, or something from the SD card slot, like photos or home videos. On the SSD side, Plextor showed off their M3 Pro Series. A really neat feature about the M3 Pro Series is Plextor’s True Speed technology. True Speed manages the SSD in a manner where performance doesn’t degrade when the drive is in a dirty state. Plextor had a speed test demo running in their suite to prove that True Speed really works, and I can attest True Speed provides a significant boost in read and write speeds on dirty drives.
Mad Catz has made gaming accessories for years. Although recently, MadCatz has seriously committed to expanding their product line. With the Street Fighter X Tekken VS Arcade Stick, Xbox 360 Primer Headset, Cyborg F.R.E.Q. Headset, and the MLG Pro Gaming Circuit controller. But Mad Catz’s new products aren’t clones of what’s already available, each product offers something new. For instance, the Street Fighter X Tekken VS Arcade Stick is the exact dimensions of the Japanese arcade counterpart with better build quality, the Xbox 360 Primer Headset is officially licensed and runs at 5.8GHz, Cyborg F.R.E.Q. has a detachable mic and a swappable USB or 3.5mm adapter, so it is usable on any device. Finally, the MLG Pro Gaming Circuit Controller allows you to swap the thumbsticks, and d-pad into any configuration you want. Alex from Mad Catz provides us with a thorough walkthrough of the above products.

Gears of War is one of the biggest franchises to be created during the current (7th) console generation. The first Gears of War launched back in 2006, the second in 2008, and the third in 2011. What started off as a simple war between humans and locusts, has spawned a trilogy of intense third person cover based gameplay.
The third installment of the Gears of War series picks up quite some time after the second. Epic has included a video to fill in the time gap between the two games, while also getting any completely new players caught up to speed. While that is all fun and gravy, the question is, how does Gears of War 3 differ from its predecessors?
I went digging into my video game crates to find my Super Nintendo and one of the coolest games ever made, Uniracers. At its core, Uniracers is a simple racing game. Your goal is to beat your opponent. However, it isn’t as simple as point a to point b. There are tricks, stunts, and obstacles that you either need to master or learn how to avoid. Uniracers is a fast paced thrill ride that is as fun to watch, as it is to play. Let’s flashback to 1994. Super Nintendo (SNES) was the top console and Nintendo was racking up exclusives. Uniracers, a brand new franchise was being developed by DMA Design. That name may not be familiar today, but DMA Design didn’t disappear. They became what’s now known as Rockstar North. Yes, that’s the same Rockstar North that created the GTA series and Lemmings. DMA Design put together a game that is so simple, although if you dive into it, there is a lot to do.
Do you have a TV, game console, Blu-Ray player, or any other device that can connect to a network but it doesn’t have built-in wireless or it is out of your wireless network’s range? Then I have some really good news. TP-LINK has a 200Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter (TL-PA211) that’ll give you connectivity anywhere there’s a power outlet. The TL-PA211 is reliable enough to keep your pings low in online gaming, and even fast enough to stream HD video from one end of your house to the other. It’s also pretty affordable. Check out the full review for all of the specs and a detailed account of my experience with the TL-PA211.
TP-LINK’s TL-WR1043ND may not be featured on the front page of retailers’ newspaper ads, and all of your friends may have no clue who they are, however, you absolutely should not overlook one of their products, the TL-WR1043ND. Fancy model numbers aside, we’re talking about a Wireless N 300Mbps Gigabit Router with a clean design and nice firmware to give you the quality networking you need. It also has a USB port for NAS, and if you don’t like the stock firmware, DD-WRT is fully supported. Usually a router of this caliber would cost quite a bit. Although you can get the TL-WR1043ND for less than the price of a new video game, and still have some change left over for ice cream. Check out the full review to see all of the reasons why TP-LINK’s TL-WR1043ND should be your next router.
Affordable, feature packed, 5.1 channel sound, headphone amp and built in S/PDIF, this is the ASUS Xonar DG. Yes, it is the cheapest card in the Xonar lineup, but it definitely carries more than its weight. The Xonar DG is Dolby Headphone and GX2.5 enabled which takes care of all current gaming support. While its great sound quality (up to 96kHz/24bit) makes all movies, and music truly enjoyable. There will even be times when you blindly mistake the Xonar DG for its bigger brother the Xonar Xense. Putting all of that fancy stuff aside, if you need a new soundcard and are on a budget, the Xonar DG is the card for you. Continue reading to find out all of the reasons why.
