ASUS X79 Deluxe Motherboard Detailed

Last week we unveiled ASUS’s latest X79 Motherboard for Intel’s Ivy Bridge-E processors the X79 Deluxe. When we posted that article not much was know about the board, we just had to go on the photos that were leaked. Well our friends over at The Tech Report got their hands on the board for a full review so we have much more detail on this high-end board!

As we stated before the X79 Deluxe replaces the P9X79 Pro that was released last year. ASUS has gone with a black and gold color scheme which we first saw on their Z87 boards. This is one beast of a board. The VRM’s and PCH are covered by large gold heatsinks that are connected by heatpipes. There are 4 DDR3 DIMM slots on each side of the CPU socket enabling for configs of up to 64 GB of quad channel memory.

There are four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. The first two slots can be configured with 16 lanes of PCI-Express 3.0 bandwidth when populated. When more than three cards are installed the lanes go as follows x16/x8/x8/x4. The rest of the expansion is filled with two PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slots. ASUS has also added extras on the board like power and reset buttons, clear CMOS button, boot to BIOS button and a POST code display.

As you may know the X79 chipset has only two native SATA 6GB/s ports and no native USB 3.0 connectivity. Because of this ASUS has included three additional SATA controllers. A Marvell chip adds four SATA 6GB/s ports, a pair of ASMedia controllers add two more SATA 6GB/s ports and two eSATA 6GB/s ports. You also have four USB 3.0 controllers! There are dedicated to powering the six USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O and the last is reserved for the front-panel connectors.

The board also has dual Gigabit Ethernet controllers, one from Intel and the other from Realtek. There is a Broadcom adapter that provides 802.11ac Wi-Fi and the board also has Bluetooth 4.0.
