ASUS P6X58D-E Intel X58 Express Motherboard Review

ASUS Unique Features
The Asus P6X58D-E, as all Asus motherboards, have more features than could possibly be mentioned in a single review.  This board contains all current Asus unique features, most of which I have pointed out in other reviews.

True USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s support:  Rather than utilize the PCI-E lanes contained in the X58 chipset for data of these new storage formats to the CPU, Asus has installed a separate PCI-E chip.  Read about it here.

Asus TurboV:  Asus’ software/hardware method of overclocking in the operating system is called TurboV.  Read about it here.

Express Gate and Drive Xpert:  If you are interested in a super simple RAID setup, or performing some functions with your rig without waiting on your O/S to launch, Read about these here.

Overclocking:
Though Asus’ TurboV is an excellent method of overclocking in the Windows environment, I always receive the most OC satisfaction while overclocking in the BIOS.  After some experimentation, I ended up going with the usual 3.9Ghz overclock on my i7 920.  It will clock higher, but just isn’t stable enough to hold up under my usual range of testing.

  1. Thanks for this page- I am having trouble mounting this mb into my case because the blue metal pieces on the underside of the mb cause the mb to “lift” away from the case and the only option would be to use longer screws for the hole closest to the ps/2 connections which would then cause the whole rear connections section to not line up correctly. Did I need a special case for this mb to accommodate the blue metal pieces on the underside? my case is a Cooler Master ATX compatible. Thanks!

  2. Dont like this board. It’s quite picky on the DRAM. You have to manually change the settings in the bios as AUTO doesnt give you the correct voltage or QDRAM settings. XMP also is a joke in this boad.

There are issues that are unique to this board and the Marvell controller if you want to run 6 GB/sec.

Asus customer support is horrilbe and all and all, a dud of board in my opinion.

  3. And another thing, if you want to run 12 GB or more on this board then the max supported speed is 1333 NOT 1600 mhz!!
