ASUS Makes an Offer to Buy ASRock

Well this is some interesting news for the weeekend. It seems like ASUS has made an offer to buy ASRock’s motherboard division. If ASRock accepts the deal and it goes through this could really shake up the motherboard market. As it stands now ASUS is the number 1 motherboard maker with Gigabyte following second and ASRock coming in third. Combining the number 1 and 3 motherboard manufacturers could really hurt many other of the board makers as they would not have the volume or competitive pricing to compete with one big ASUS / ASRock giant.

“Currently word has it that an offer has been made for Asrock, and Pegatron is essentially fine with the terms. This would take the #1 and #3 mobo makers and combine them, leaving the industry with one massive behemoth, one solid player, and a lot of minnows struggling to make waves. As of now, there is a first tier of Asus and Gigabyte, then Asrock, MSI, and ECS at less than half of that volume, plus a few niche players in the motherboard market.”

What do you guys think?
