ASUS Announces the TUF Trooper B85 Motherboard

ASUS’s TUF or The Ultimate Force series motherboards are typically reserved for higher-end chipsets, but ASUS has just announced a TUF B85 motherboard. The TUF Trooper B85 is built on the B85 express chipset and supports Intel’s 4th and 5th generation Intel Core processors. Of course being a TUF board you get the reliability of it being rigorously tested and all of the TUF components.

This board does sort of look a bit awkward as ASUS has cut its width down by 64 mm, it still retains the standard ATX height though. Even with the smaller size nothing really looks all that cramped and it does give you room for more expansion cards.

When it comes to storage you have a total of six SATA ports on the board that are located at the bottom. Four of them are SATA 6GB/s, while the last two are only SATA 3GB/s ports. You have on-board headers for both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 as well as two USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 ports on the rear I/O. One interesting thing on the board is onboard and shielded 8-channel Realtek ALC887 HD codec with PCB isolation.

Besides being tested rigorously and being built with extra reliable components the TUF Trooper B85 comes with TUF exclusive features. TUF ESD Guards 2 is protection against inadvertent electrostatic discharges when connectors are inserted into the IO panel and it’s been improved with a 30% better resistance over the previous generation. TUF Thermal Radar keeps track of all of the sensor on the board and allows you to easily setup fan profiles. TUF LANGuard will help you keep a better and more stable network connection with extra surface-mounted capacitors. TUF audio design has extra shielding and a dedicated audio layer for the best sound possible.
