ASRock Shows Us Their Flagship Z270 Supercarrier Motherboard

At CES 2017 ASRock showed us a pretty awesome Z270 motherboard! This board will serve as their flagship Z270 board and believe me it is feature-packed! It is the Z270 Supercarrier and it has a lot of features you will not find on other Z270 motherboards.

Starting with looks the Z270 Supercarrier has a really cook matte grey and silver design. There is thermal armor that covers the rear I/O as well as the far left of the board. There is a very cool “27” on the PCH heatsink which we assume stands for Z270.

ASRock is using a 14-phase VRM to condition the CPU. The power delivery components are covered by aggressive heatsinks that will keep everything nice and cool. There is a third heatsink that covers the PLX chip. The four DDR4 DIMM slots support DDR4 memory up to 3733 MHz.

Since this board has a PLX chip it of course enables more PCI-Express lanes. So you have support for 4-way NVIDIA SLI and 4-way AMD CrossFireX. When you have two cards installed they will run at x16 speeds at all times and when you have all 4 slots populated your cards will run at x8 speeds. As you can see the four PCI-Express x16 slots are metal-shielded and there is a single PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slot. There are three Ultra M.2 slots (PCIe 3.0 x4) on this board. Towards the bottom of the board you’ll find dedicated power and reset buttons as well as a POST code display. The board does feature ASRock’s Purity Sound 4 which makes use of the Realtek ALC1220 codec.

Moving on to the rear I/O we have another thing you won’t find on many Z270 board which is 5 Gigabit Ethernet, this is a AQUANTIA 5gig port. There are also two Intel Gigabit Ethernet ports as well. If you want to go the WiFi route the board has 802.11ac WiFi. You’ll also notice four USB 3.1 ports on the back of this board, there are two type-c and two type-a. The type-c connectors connect you to Thunderbolt 3.

No word yet on pricing for the Z270 Carrier, but expect to see it at the end of this month.
