Antec Soundscience Rockus 3D 2.1 Speaker System Review

Setup & Usage
Getting the speakers setup is pretty easy if you have ever connected any type of audio equipment.  The first thing you are going to want to do is connect the satellites to the subwoofer.  Then connect the control module to the subwoofer and plug in power.  Finally connect the unit to your PC or gaming system.  Setup should take you 5 minutes tops.

So how do you go about testing speakers?  Listen to music, play games and watch movies of course.  Let’s start with music, I listened to pretty much everything on the Rockus speakers from Coldplay to Drake and the experience was really great.  Everything sounded clear and the mids and highs were perfect.  Even when I turned the volume up extremely high the sound did not get distorted, it was very clear.  Antec told us to listen to songs we know really well on one speaker system then try it on the Rockus.  After doing this test with 3 different songs I was extremely impressed!  I used the Razer Mako Speaker system and then used the Rockus and I could hear things I never heard in the songs before on the Rockus system.  It was very impressive!

The next thing was to watch movies.  I picked Transformers 2 on Blu-ray because I knew it had a lot of action scenes and would be good to test the speakers.  I put the speakers on the 3D setting and was just amazed at the sound and how it felt like I was surrounded by sound.  Keep in mind there are only 2 satellite speakers and the fact that when watching a movie and having them set on 3D mode I feel like the sound is all around me just blows my mind!  The sound is rich and very clear, even when I had it turned up quite loud.  The subwoofer is in your face and really pumps out sound and makes you feel like you are in the action.

Finally I connected the Rockus speaker system to my Xbox 360 and went to town on some people in Halo Reach.  Once again I had the speakers in 3D mode and I was just so impressed how I felt that the sound was all around me, not just coming from the 2 satellite speakers.  It was like I could tell where my enemies were coming from and it really helped me in-game.  Also the subwoofer was nice and loud and really made shotgunning someone in the face a lot of fun!

Final Thoughts
As I said I was a bit skeptical when Antec told me they were coming out with a speaker system.  I really did not expect them to create a company behind it and create a product that is just awesome!

Starting with the satellites, they are made of anodized aluminum, have a cylindrical design and just look awesome on our desk or home theater.  Their design really makes them stand out if you have them your desk.  The subwoofer is made of wood and is compact.  It uses passive radiator technology and it really works.  It really booms and makes you feel like you are right in the action.

Everything I played sounded awesome on the Rockus speakers, whether I was listening to music, playing a game or watching a movie.  The sound was crisp and clear and even when I turned the volume up quite high nothing was distorted or washed out.  The 3D mode is just amazing, with only the 2 satellites and the subwoofer I felt surrounded by sound.  Use these speakers once in 3D mode and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

The Rockus speaker system sells for $249 at my favorite online retailer.  Considering the speaker quality and how great these speakers sound that price is fine with me.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Antec Soundscience Rockus 3D 2.1 Speaker System a 10 out of 10 score and our Editor’s Choice Award!
