Antec LanBoy Air Modular Case Review

External Overview
The Lanboy Air is your average mid-tower sized case, but that is where any comparison to other cases stops. Everything else is, well, different.

Top
Starting with the top of the case you can see that there are two removable handles that make it easy to transport the case, which is a signature of the Lanboy series of enclosures by Antec. The rear portion of the top is a plastic panel with slots cut into it that is ideal for mounting a dual 120mm radiator for water cooling, or simply two fans, one of which comes installed.

Front
The front of the case looks pretty typical for a modern mid-tower. At the very top, as part of the crossbar, is the power and reset switches, two USB 2.0 ports, microphone and headphone jacks, and a USB 3.0 port. The latter has a nice long cable so you can route it to the rear of the machine and plug it in.

Below that is the normal external drive bays (3) and two fully adjustable 120mm LED fans. The fan speed is adjusted byt eh small knob in the corner that actually looks like it could have been a mounting screw. What makes it different is that they can all be moved around into any configuration you like. The standard setup is with the 3 drive bays up top and the two fans below. You basically have 9 “slots” you can use with each fan taking up 3 of them. So if you want to do drive-drive-fan-drive-fan, you can. Want fan-drive-drive-drive-fan, no problem. This gives you about 9 different configurations, before you consider the fact that you can mount the drives facing to the front or left of the case..

At the very bottom of the front is a small toolbox that, when you receive the case, is holding all the typical screws for mounting your components.

Sides
The side panels are identical on each side. The rear 2/3rds is one big pieces that consist of 3 mesh panel sections held on with 4 thumbscrews. The front part, by the drives, is actually a door that is held closed by one screw and swings out 180 degrees, or a little more if you want to remove it.

The left side panel comes with 2 120mm fans pre-mounted in the center section, but you can move them to anywhere that makes sense.

Rear
The case ships with the PSU bracket mounted on the bottom, but you can move it to the top if you like. The entire back panel comes off and then you can move the motherboard tray down and put the PSU up top. The only thing it doesn’t allow you to do is rotate the motherboard so that the ports are facing up, that would have been pretty cool if you had that option.

The fan on the rear panel is another 120mm LED fan, this one is a 2 speed fan controlled by a switch right under the fan. There is also a spot to put a switch for a 2nd 2 speed fan that you would mount on the top of the case.

They have also, very thoughtfully, included two holes for water cooling tubing to enter the case as well as an extra PCI slot to help route the USB 3.0 cable to where it needs to go.

Bottom
Yes, the bottom of the case is mesh as well, though it uses a much sturdier mesh with square holes. You will also notice two sets of four bigger holes near the front for mounting 2.5” drives, but we will get into that later.
