It looks like AMD is expanding their product lineup as they have just recently unveiled their new Radeon Series Gaming Solid State Drives. The lineup is currently made up of three solid state drives in the Radeon R7 solid state drive family.

AMD Radeon R7 SSDs

The three drives in the series are the Radeon R7 120G, Radeon R7 240G and the Radeon R7 480G. As you can guess these are 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB models. The Radeon R7 Series solid state drives will come in a very attractive black aluminum casing that is engraved with the Radeon brand logo. The drives are powered by OCZ’s Barefoot 3 M00 controller and will feature Toshiba 19 nm MLC NAND flash. This same setup was on OCZ’s own Vector 150 solid state drive.

As far as performance all three of the drives will offer a sequential read speeds of 550 MB/s. When it comes to sequential write speeds the 480 GB and 240 GB version of the drive will have speeds of 530 MB/s whereas the 120 GB will be at 470 MB/s. It is expected that the firmware on these drives will be optimized for the AMD platform as well.

AMD makes it own processors, graphics cards, motherboard chipset, has its own branded memory and now Solid State drives. It will be interesting to see how well these drives sell, we know that many AMD fans will be picking them up.
