AMD Teases Polaris 10 And Polaris 11 ASIC Photos

AMD has launched a new website for its upcoming Polaris GPU architecture. On this website AMD goes over many of the innovations and technologies that will go into Polaris. What caught our eye were to two photos on the site of actual processors.

First we have the photo that you see above. It shows a smaller chip behind the Polaris logo. This GPU shows a die that is almost 30% of the package area. This hints to Polaris 11 “Baffin”. Polaris 11, according to AMD is the new graphics processor designed for notebooks. Polaris 11 is rumored to feature a 128-bit GDDR5 / GDDR5X memory interface.

Next we have a blown up photo that has the GCN Architecture badge on it. This shows a small part of a GPU. At first glance you might think that it is “Tonga XT” or “Tahiti” based on the support brace, but the on-package electrical components in the image are arranged nothing like “Tonga” or Tahiti”. This could very likely be Polaris 10 Ellesmere.
