An alleged photo along with specifications of AMD’s upcoming flagship Radeon HD 8970 graphics card has been leaked by 4Chan of all places. Because of that I would take this report with a grain of salt, but many rumors suggest that AMD’s 8000 series could debut at E3 2013 this week, so who knows this may actually be a real photo of the card.
Not only was the photo above leaked, but also the specifications of the card. According to them the GPU will be powered by the 28nm Curacao XT core which features 2304 stream processors, 48 raster operators, and 3GB of GDDR5 memory running along a 384-bit wide interface. The core will operate at 1000 MHz or 1 GHz clock speed and the memory will be running at 6500 MHz or 6.5 GHz effective frequency. The TDP is also said to be 250W. The rumored price of the card is said to be $550, which would put it $100 under NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce GTX 780.
The photo shows a cooler design that is much like the one we saw on AMD’s Radeon HD 7990, except that it only has two fans. The fans and side patterns are actually the same. Also on the card we see two CrossFireX connectors and power to the card is by an 8 + 6pin PCI Express power connector.
Here is a graph comparing the Radeon HD 8970 to the Radeon HD 7970.
