Testing – Gaming
Not only was it strange doing only half of the Futuremark testing, it was really strange not being able to use DX10 games to test the Phenom II 940. I broke out some of my old favorites, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces, and F.E.A.R.
Supreme Commander has been one of my favorite benchmark games for a long time, as it really stresses a system, particularly the memory. It’s an RTS, but the maps are huge with a lot going on. I used the onboard performance test, not included in the original game but added in a patch. Settings were: High, 2 x AA, 1280 x 960.
Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces is another RTS, again the maps are huge and very busy. I used the onboard performance test, settings were High, 2 x AA, 1280 x 960.
F.E.A.R. is an old DX8 FPS that many players found rather creepy. I used the onboard performance test, settings were Extreme, 2 x AA, 1280 x 960.
