AMD Dual Hawaii Vesuvius R9 295X2 To Launch in April

Well NVIDIA launched their dual-GPU GeForce GTX Titan Z just the other day and now it is AMD’s turn. They have been hinting at launching a dual-GPU product with their #2betterthan1 viral campaign. Sources are now saying that the R9 295X2 codenamed Vesuvius will be launching April 8th.

AMD-Vesuvius

The #2betterthan1 viral campaign sent 2 Pringle cans and a Hawaiian water bottle to many members of the press. This hints to the fact that the R9 295X2 will be hybrid cooled. This means that all reference cards will ship a type of watercooling solution, much like we have seen on ASUS’s ARES cards and ASUS’s ROG Poseidon cards. Having the hybrid cooling solution will help keep the already hot Hawaii GPUs nice and cool.

We are guessing from the dual-GPU setup and hybrid cooler that this card will have a TDP of 375W or above. AMD’s last dual-GPU card the Radeon HD 7990 sold for $999, but it was not hybrid cooled. Given the fact that this card will have the hybrid cooling we are expecting it to sell for around $1499. It will be very interesting to see how this card stacks up against NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX Titan Z.

Expect more details as we get into April.
