When it comes to external hard drive enclosures ICY DOCK is a name you should know. They have been making enclosures for quite some time now. Their enclosures are always quality-made and have sleek designs so you are not ashamed to have them sitting on your desk. The enclosure we are taking a look at today is no different. The MB559U3S-1S is a single-bay enclosure that not only is ultra thin, but also features two of the fastest connections available, USB 3.0 and eSATA. Read on as we take a look!
On the table today is a 2.5” drive rack by Icy Dock. The MB994SP-4S can hold four 2.5” drives, and fit all of them in a single 5.25” bay in your desktop or server. It can fit any 2.5” drive up to 15mm in height (yes, that includes Western Digital’s extremely popular 2.5” Velociraptor drives!) The chassis of the rack is 100% aluminum, which gives a solid feel and a clean look. It also has dual 40mm exhaust fans to keep the higher-RPM drives cool. Read on to find out more.
We have been reviewing ICY DOCK products for quite some time. They specialize in storage solutions, mainly ones that will fit in an open drive bays. Transferring files from an old hard drive to your new system can be quite annoying. You have to open your system up, mount the drive, etc. If you have an older drive this can take even longer because many new motherboards do not even have IDE connections. This is where the ICY DOCK MB881U3-1SA EZ-Dock comes in. It is a neat little USB 3.0 hard drive dock that supports 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA and IDE drives. Let’s take a look…
Storage is something we can never have too much of, I myself have over 4TB of space and it is running out! Most of my storage is external though, so it’s a pain to take with me to LAN parties or other events. Most cases these days have room for 4-6 hard drives, but for some people that still is not enough. How many optical drives do you have? I don’t even use them anymore so I have 4 open spots in my case for nothing really. Well not nothing, ICY DOCK has a great device that will allow me to fit four more hard drives in three 5.25-inch drive bays. The device is the MB974SP-B, let’s see if it is the perfect device for you to add more storage to your system.
Icy Dock has changed the game yet again with the new MB982IP-1S 2.5″ to 3.5″ SATA/SAS SSD & HDD Converter. The MB982 is predicated off the incredibly popular MB882SP-1S-1B device, taking its general concept and improving it tenfold. This product is designed using the dimensions, connection locations, and mounting hole positions of a standard 3.5″ drive, so that it can be used in any internal hard drive bay, as well as with backplane and hot swap modules.
The market has been flooded with a lot of 2.5-inch drives. There are so many different enclosures being released to fit all of our 2.5-inch drive needs for those older cases without the 2.5-inch hard drive mounting brackets for the more current solid state drives (SSD’s). The Icy Dock MB991IK-B offers a lot of features jammed packed into this little 3.5” front bay enclosure. So let’s put the Icy Dock MB991IK-B to the test and see how it handles all of our benchmarks.
Large volume external storage has also been and will remain to be popular just for the fact that many people do not have room inside their cases for extra hard drives. Also external storage allows you to easily use that storage on multiple systems with minimal effort. With the introduction of eSATA external drives can now be just as fast as internal drives so we have seen quite a few eSATA external enclosures released lately. Today we will be taking a look at the MB561US-4S-1 Quad Bay External Enclosure from ICY DOCK that features an internal port multiplier and both eSATA and USB 2.0 connections. Let’s take a look…
Hot-swappable hard drive bays have been around for quite a while now. Many people use them because they need to transfer large files between computers or they need to take hard drives with them from location to location. The thing that was a big pain when it came to hot-swappable devices is that you needed to have the same one installed on each system so that the trays would work on both systems. ICY DOCK who has been making devices like this for a long time has now eliminated the tray design so all you have to do is just slide your drive right in. Let’s take a look at one of their latest internal enclosures the MB672.
