Network attached storage can offer all sorts of advantages over regular external hard drives. For starters, you have the ability to easily access its stored data on any computer that is connected to your home network. Thanks to configurations that allow for multiple hard drives, you can also added capacity, as well as data redundancy in case something should go awry.
One thing that many motherboards have lacked up until recently was extra USB ports. Many people do not need a lot of extra USB ports, but people like me do. I run 4 external USB hard drives, have a USB webcam, 2 USB receivers for my keyboard and mouse, card reader, USB speakers, iPhone dock, and always need 1 extra USB port open for my flash drive! Wouldn’t it be nice if I could move a few of those connections inside the case and not have to worry about them? Well NZXT has developed something that is a no brainer, the IU01 USB Expansion System.
Besides the small file random read/write the LSI 9260-8i surpassed the Adaptec 5805 in nearly all the SSD tests while the two cards were roughly equal in the HDD tests. What really helps the LSI 9260-8i is the SAS/SATA 6Gbps support enabling maximum performance on upcoming storage drives. This will be quite important with SATA 6Gbps SSDs easily pushing 500MB/s in sequential reads. It is a close call between the two cards but consideration must also be taken regarding firmware maturity. The Adaptec 5805 has been on the market for a while but the LSI 9260-8i is still relatively immature. There is a possibility that the small file random read/write performance could be bolstered, making the Adaptec 5805 effectively obsolete…

John Curran, President and CEO of the non-profit American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to sit down with me and discuss a major problem the world is facing in the next two years. The Internet is running out of IP addresses–numbers computers use to contact each other on the Internet, but there is a solution. This solution is IPv6, an method of addressing which greatly expands the number of addresses available, which ensures that every computer, mobile phone, e-book reader, gaming console, refridgerator, and any other Internet-connected device can talk to each other.
